The creation of the National University of San Juan is the result of the concerns of many sanjuaninos who, representing an entire community, and with the desire to fulfill its expectations, committed their personal efforts to the creation of a national university in the province.

While on August 11, 1964, during the governorship of Leopoldo Bravo, the Domingo Faustino Sarmiento Provincial University was created in tribute to the sanjuanino national hero who fought most for academic excellence, on that same day, in a note published in the Tribuna de San Juan newspaper, a group of renowned personalities from the academic, scientific and cultural field supported the creation of a national university in the province...

This Commission contacted the sanjuanino Ricardo Colombo... a national program designed by the physician and researcher Alberto C. Taquini...

Although the National University in San Juan was not contemplated in the original Taquini Plan, the initiative of the sanjuaninos bore fruit when, on May 10, 1973, the de facto president, Lieutenant General Alejandro Agustín Lanusse, signed Law 20367 allowing the creation of this new national university...

Currently, forty years later, the National University of San Juan has five faculties...
