NATIONAL UNIVERSITY OF SAN JUAN

THE NATIONAL UNIVERSITY OF SAN JUAN IS A SECULAR WORK COMMUNITY DEDICATED TO TEACHING, RESEARCH, CREATION AND DISSEMINATION OF KNOWLEDGE IN ALL ITS ORDERS: SCIENTIFIC, TECHNICAL, PHILOSOPHICAL AND ARTISTIC; AND TO THE INTEGRAL TRAINING OF PROFESSIONALS AT THE SERVICE OF THE COMMON GOOD.

It has the following purposes:

• Integral training of people to live a full existence, allowing them a complete experience of the world of values in relation to other people.
• Integral training of free people in an authentically democratic society centered on ideals of independence and participation.
• Training of people committed to the national identity and local and regional reality.

To fulfill its purposes, the National University of San Juan is oriented towards the fulfillment of the following objectives:

• Clarify human problems, preferably those of the Argentine and Latin American reality and especially those of the region, to propose solutions.
• Disseminate and develop culture through higher education, scientific-technological research and artistic creation, contributing concretely to the achievement of the aspirations of free man and collective well-being.
• Prepare professionals and researchers consistent with a democratic conception who participate in the community to which they belong as active and co-responsible members, capable of protecting and perpetuating its values and institutions.
• Prepare for the teaching practice at all levels and modalities of the educational system.
• Strive for the improvement of its own teachers, researchers and creators.
• Seek the specialization, improvement and updating of its graduates.
• Contribute to the coordination and articulation of the levels and cycles that make up the national educational system.
• Guarantee free undergraduate teaching for all those who aspire to it, without any discrimination among its members.

The functions of the National University of San Juan are:

• Train professionals through an integral education that enables them to exercise their profession in public and private life with moral and intellectual suitability.
• Preserve, promote and disseminate national culture within the framework of Latin American integration.
• Promote cultural identity as an integrating vision of the approach of each specialty.
• Organize, promote and develop scientific, technical and artistic teaching, basic and applied research, creation and technological development, assuming the problems of national, regional and local reality, proposing solutions.
• Impart teaching and develop research, tending to the achievement of scientific-technological, cultural and economic independence, as the basis of national independence.
• Train researchers and creators in the different branches of knowledge.
• Strive for the specialization, improvement and updating of the university community.
• Project its scientific and artistic activity, fulfilling university extension plans.
• Promote cultural exchange with other universities, national and foreign, and with other organisms, provincial, national and international.
• Provide social assistance to the university community.

The National University of San Juan develops its activity within the regime of autonomy and self-governance granted by current legislation. Under such conditions, it dictates and modifies its statute, disposes of its assets and manages them, prepares its budget, has full governance of the studies pursued therein, elects its authorities, and appoints and renews personnel of all ranks and hierarchies, in accordance with this statute and its regulations.

Furthermore, the National University of San Juan guarantees the right of thought and opinion for all its members.

Academic personnel, in the exercise of their specific functions, have full freedom for the expression of their ideas in the scientific or artistic field, and any propaganda or form of political proselytism or discrimination is absolutely prohibited.
